#PowerPlatformTip 70: 'Managing Teams with PowerApps!'

TL;DR: Dataverse for Teams environments are managed in the Power Platform admin center: Manage > Environments, filter on Type = Microsoft Teams. They are deprecated: no new ones from November 15, 2026, and every environment you want to keep must be upgraded to Dataverse before October 30, 2027.

💡 Challenge

Apps, flows and agents built inside Microsoft Teams live in a Dataverse for Teams environment (formerly “Power Apps for Teams”). These apps don’t show up in the app list of make.powerapps.com, so makers and admins often don’t know where to manage the environment, who has which rights, and what has to happen before Microsoft retires this environment type.

Manage Dataverse for Teams environments in the Power Platform admin center. There you find every Teams environment of the tenant, its users, backups and capacity, and the Upgrade action that turns it into a regular Dataverse environment.

🔧 How It’s Done

1. Find the environment

🔸 Sign in to the Power Platform admin center > Manage > Environments.

🔸 Environments with Type = Microsoft Teams are Dataverse for Teams environments. The environment name is the name of the team.

2. Know who can manage it

🔸 Team owners get the System Administrator role in the environment and can do maintenance such as backup and restore in the admin center.

🔸 Team members can create and edit apps and flows in the team. Guests can only run them.

🔸 Power Platform admins and Global admins manage every Teams environment without being in the team. Dynamics 365 admins need to be owner or member of the team.

3. Change settings and users

🔸 Select the environment > Settings > Users + permissions > Users to add a user. Under Integration > Teams integration settings you control Teams collaboration and chat.

🔸 Check capacity under Licensing > Capacity add-ons > tab Microsoft Teams. Each Teams environment has 2 GB of combined database and file storage.

4. Plan the upgrade

🔸 Select the environment and Upgrade to production. The tenant needs at least as much free Dataverse capacity as the environment uses.

🔸 After the upgrade, apps and flows are edited in make.powerapps.com and make.powerautomate.com, the environment no longer depends on the team, and users need Power Apps or Power Automate licenses to run the apps.
