#PowerPlatformTip 99: 'Timesaver Toolkits, ChatGPT and Flow'

TL;DR: Dictate a thought into ChatGPT, let it fill a link to your flow with three URL-encoded query parameters (title, type, text), and tap the link. A Power Automate flow with the When an HTTP request is received trigger (method GET) reads the parameters with triggerOutputs()?['queries']?['title'] and creates a task or an email. The HTTP trigger is premium, and a link that works from a browser must allow Anyone to trigger it, so treat the URL like a password.

💡 Challenge

On the move you have ideas, to-dos and mails to write, but no time to type them into the right app. Dictating is fast, but the text then still has to be structured and moved to To Do or Outlook by hand.

✅ Solution

Combine an AI chat with a Power Automate flow. The chat structures what you dictated into title, type and text and builds a clickable link to the flow’s HTTP endpoint with those values as URL-encoded query parameters. Tapping the link starts the flow, which routes the content by type.

🔧 How It’s Done

1. Create the flow.

🔸 Instant cloud flow with the trigger When an HTTP request is received. Under Who can trigger the flow? select Anyone, under advanced parameters set Method to GET.

🔸 Save the flow and copy the HTTP URL. It contains a signature (sig=...); anyone with the full URL can start the flow.

2. Read the parameters.

🔸 Three Compose actions named Title, Type and Text:

triggerOutputs()?['queries']?['title']
triggerOutputs()?['queries']?['type']
triggerOutputs()?['queries']?['text']

3. Route by type.

🔸 A Switch on the type value:

• Task: Microsoft To Do Add a to-do (V3) with title and text as the note.
• Mail: Office 365 Outlook Send an email (V2) to yourself, subject = title, body = text.
• Default: send yourself the raw content so nothing is lost.

4. Answer the browser.

🔸 Add a Response action with status 200 and a short body such as Saved: @{outputs('Title')}. The browser tab then shows a confirmation instead of a blank page.

5. Write the prompt.

🔸 Paste a prompt like this into a custom instruction or a saved prompt, with your own HTTP URL:

When I dictate a note, structure it into:
- title: max. 8 words
- type: exactly "Task" or "Mail"
- text: the full content, cleaned up
Then output only one clickable link:
<YOUR HTTP URL>&title=<title>&type=<type>&text=<text>
URL-encode every value (spaces as %20, line breaks as %0A).

🔸 The HTTP URL already contains a query string (?api-version=...&sig=...), so the parameters are appended with &.

6. Dictate and tap.

🔸 Use the voice input of the chat app, check the generated title and type, tap the link. The flow run shows the three values in the trigger outputs.

A dictated thought becomes a to-do or a mail within seconds, without typing, and the browser confirms what was saved.

⚠️ Good to Know

🔸 Anyone means anyone: a link clicked in a browser sends no bearer token, so the authenticated options Any user in my tenant and Specific users in my tenant don’t work for this scenario. Keep the URL private, don’t post it in shared chats, and regenerate the SAS key of the trigger if it leaks.

🔸 URL length: very long dictations make very long links. Keep text to a few paragraphs, or let the flow fetch longer content elsewhere.

1. Which AI tools can I use for this tip?

Any chat that follows instructions and outputs a clickable link, for example ChatGPT or Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat. The flow only sees the HTTP request, not the AI tool.

2. Can I structure different types of data beyond tasks and emails?

Yes. Add the new type to the prompt and a new case to the Switch, for example Note to append to a OneNote page or Meeting to create a calendar entry.

3. How do I secure the HTTP trigger URL?

The URL with its signature is the key. Share it with nobody, use it only from your own devices, and regenerate the SAS key when it may have leaked. If the caller can send a Microsoft Entra ID token, for example another app or a script, set Who can trigger the flow? to Specific users in my tenant instead of Anyone.
