Theme Generator (Color Palette as Named Formula)

Build a color palette for classic controls in Power Apps as a named formula for App.Formulas.

You set primary, secondary, status, text and background colors, by hand or primary and secondary from an image. The tool writes a named formula with ColorValue("#...") that you paste into App.Formulas (tip 22). It needs no App.OnStart, is available on every screen and cannot be overwritten by a Set by accident. For modern controls use a theme instead, the "Image to Power Apps Theme" tool builds it.

Open Theme Generator

Free. You enter your email address once, then all tools are unlocked. Your data is processed locally in your browser.

How it works

  1. Pick colors or take primary and secondary from an image.
  2. Check the preview.
  3. Copy the code and paste it into the Formulas property of App in the tree view.

Example: named formula in App.Formulas

Brand = {
    Primary: ColorValue("#40c7c0"),
    Text: ColorValue("#206360"),
    Background: ColorValue("#e3efeb"),
    PrimaryHover: ColorFade(ColorValue("#40c7c0"), -20%)
};

// Usage: Fill = Brand.Primary

Frequently asked questions

Is the theme generator free?

Yes.

Is data uploaded?

No, the palette is built locally.

Why a named formula instead of a variable in App.OnStart?

A named formula in App.Formulas needs no OnStart, is available everywhere and cannot be changed by a Set somewhere in the app (tip 22).

Why ColorValue("#...") and not just #...?

Power Fx has no hex literals. A hex value must be text inside ColorValue(), also inside ColorFade().

What about modern controls?

They follow a theme (App.Theme). The "Image to Power Apps Theme" tool builds the YAML for it.

Where do I get the colors of a website?

With the Edge DevTools CSS Overview (tip 55).
