Flow Transformer (Rename Actions and Variables)

Rename actions and variables in Power Automate flow definitions, including every reference.

The Flow Transformer changes the action key, the runAfter entries and references in expressions such as outputs('Name'), body('Name') or items('Name'). For variables it updates Initialize variable, all variable actions and variables('Name'). Action types and text such as a $filter stay unchanged. Spaces in the new name become underscores like in the designer, and duplicate names are reported.

Open Flow Transformer

Free. You enter your email address once, then all tools are unlocked. Your data is processed locally in your browser.

How it works

  1. Paste or upload the flow definition, a full export with properties.definition works too.
  2. Pick an action or variable and enter the new name.
  3. Copy the result. Further renames build on it.

Example: rename an action

// before
"Compose": { "type": "Compose", ... },
"Send_mail": { "inputs": "@outputs('Compose')", "runAfter": { "Compose": ["Succeeded"] } }

// after (Compose → Compose_Mail)
"Compose_Mail": { "type": "Compose", ... },
"Send_mail": { "inputs": "@outputs('Compose_Mail')", "runAfter": { "Compose_Mail": ["Succeeded"] } }

Frequently asked questions

Is the Flow Transformer free?

Yes.

Is my flow data uploaded?

No, everything runs locally in your browser.

Which format does the tool expect?

The flow definition from code view, a snippet with actions, or a full export with properties.definition.

Is the action type kept?

Yes. The tool only replaces keys, runAfter and references in expressions. "type": "Compose" stays even if the action is called Compose.

Can I rename variables?

Yes, in Initialize variable, Set, Increment and Append variable, and in variables('Name').

What if my JSON is invalid?

Check it with the JSON Validator first, it shows where the error is.
