utcNow('format') / formatDateTime Tester
Test .NET date formats for Power Automate live. For the current time, utcNow('format') is enough, no extra formatDateTime() needed.
Type a format such as yyyy-MM-dd and see the result together with the ready-made expression. The tool knows the one-letter standard formats (for example o or s), locales such as de-CH for month names and time zones such as W. Europe Standard Time. For values from SharePoint or Dataverse it also shows the expression with formatDateTime().
Free. You enter your email address once, then all tools are unlocked. Your data is processed locally in your browser.
How it works
- Enter a date/time (UTC) and a format string.
- Optionally pick a time zone and locale.
- Copy the expression: utcNow('format') for now, formatDateTime() for a dynamic value.
Examples: utcNow with a format
utcNow('yyyy-MM-dd') → 2026-07-10
utcNow('MMMM dd, yyyy') → July 10, 2026
formatDateTime(utcNow(), 'dddd, d. MMMM yyyy', 'de-CH')
→ Freitag, 10. Juli 2026
convertFromUtc(utcNow(), 'Pacific Standard Time', 'yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm')
→ 2026-07-10 01:30
// for a value from SharePoint
formatDateTime(triggerBody()?['Created'], 'yyyy-MM-dd')Frequently asked questions
Is the date format tester free?
Yes.
Why utcNow('format') instead of formatDateTime(utcNow(), ...)?
utcNow() takes the format directly as a parameter. It is shorter and gives the same result (tip 6).
What is the difference between MM and mm?
Upper-case MM is the month, lower-case mm is minutes. It is the most common mistake.
Does utcNow() return local time?
No, utcNow() always returns UTC. For local time use convertFromUtc(utcNow(), 'W. Europe Standard Time', 'format'), daylight saving time included.
How do I get German month names?
With the third parameter of formatDateTime, for example formatDateTime(utcNow(), 'dd. MMMM yyyy', 'de-CH').
Why single quotes?
Power Automate expressions only accept text in single quotes. A quote inside the format must be doubled, the tool does that for you.
