Recurrence Trigger Explainer

Explains the Recurrence trigger in Power Automate in plain language, with frequency and interval instead of Unix cron.

Set frequency, interval, weekdays, times, time zone and start time. You get a clear description such as "Every 2 weeks on Monday at 08:00" and the trigger definition JSON as code view shows it (tip 89, read-only). The tool checks the interval limits per frequency, sorts the times and reminds you that without a time zone the trigger runs in UTC and without a start time it fires as soon as you save.

How it works

  1. Pick frequency and interval.
  2. For Week or Day set weekdays and times, plus time zone and optional start time.
  3. Check the plain-language text and copy the JSON.

Example: every 2 weeks on Monday at 08:00 Central European time

{
  "type": "Recurrence",
  "recurrence": {
    "frequency": "Week",
    "interval": 2,
    "schedule": {
      "hours": [8],
      "minutes": [0],
      "weekDays": ["Monday"]
    },
    "timeZone": "W. Europe Standard Time"
  }
}

// Plain language
Every 2 weeks on Monday at 08:00

Frequently asked questions

Is the Recurrence explainer free?

Yes.

Does Power Automate use Unix cron?

No. The Recurrence trigger works with a frequency (second to month) and an interval.

Why does my flow run an hour early?

Without a time zone the trigger runs in UTC. Pick your time zone, then daylight saving time is honored.

When does the flow run the first time?

Without a start time, right when you save. For "every 2 weeks" or "every month" the rhythm counts from that moment, so a start time is worth setting.

Which intervals are allowed?

Month 1 to 16, week 1 to 71, day 1 to 500, hour 1 to 12000, minute 1 to 72000.

Can I set several times?

Yes, for Day and Week. The tool combines every hour with every minute, 10, 12, 14 and 30 gives 10:30, 12:30 and 14:30.
